This Privacy Policy explains how ThisIsMN ("ThisIsMN," "we," "us," or "our") handles information when you use the ThisIsMN website at thisis.mn, including the business directory, events, reviews, community features, and hosted account pages. ThisIsMN is a Minnesota business-directory service operated from Minnesota, United States. You can contact us at support@thisis.mn.
If you use the ThisIsMN mobile application, the Mobile Privacy Policy also applies to the application and its API.
This policy does not govern the independent websites, applications, or services of businesses listed in the directory. Their own privacy terms apply when you leave ThisIsMN or contact them.
When you create or use a ThisIsMN account, we collect information such as your name, email address, account identifier, email-verification status, and authentication information. Passwords are processed through our authentication service and are not stored as readable plaintext. If you sign in with Google or GitHub, we receive the name, email address, and profile identifier that the provider shares for sign-in; we do not receive your password for those services.
Depending on the features you use, we collect:
Approved reviews, photos, and event listings may be visible to other users as part of the directory. Do not include sensitive personal information in public content.
With your permission, the website can use your browser's location to show nearby businesses, calculate distance, and position maps. Coordinates are sent to our API only when needed to return location-aware results. If you decline, we use non-location defaults where available, and nearby and map features may be limited.
We process search terms, selected filters, pages requested, IP address, user agent, session tokens, and security or error information needed to return results, keep you signed in, protect the service, and diagnose failures.
We use essential cookies to run the site: session cookies that keep you signed in, a language cookie that remembers your locale, and a cookie that records your cookie-consent choice. If you allow optional analytics, we measure page usage with a privacy-focused analytics service that does not use advertising cookies and does not follow you across other sites. We do not sell personal information and we do not use your data for cross-context behavioral advertising.
If you purchase a paid plan, payment is handled by our payment processors. We receive transaction records, plan status, and billing contact details; we do not store full card numbers on our systems. Payment processors handle your card details under their own privacy terms.

We retain account information while your account is active and as needed to provide the service. Session credentials expire or are revoked when you sign out or delete the account. Reviews and other active content are kept until you remove them, moderation requires removal, or the account is deleted.
We may retain narrowly limited records when required for legal, security, fraud-prevention, transaction, booking, dispute, or compliance purposes. We separate or anonymize retained records where reasonably possible and keep them only for the applicable obligation or limitation period. Routine backups are protected and age out under operational backup schedules rather than being restored to active use after a verified deletion.
To delete your account, use your account settings or contact support@thisis.mn. We may verify your identity before acting on an external request.

Because ThisIsMN does not sell personal information or use it for cross-context behavioral advertising, there is no sale or targeted-advertising opt-out needed. We honor your analytics choice through the cookie banner; we do not respond differently to browser Do Not Track signals because we do not perform cross-site tracking.
We use HTTPS, short-lived credentials, access controls, content-security policies, and logging intended to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please contact us if you believe your account or information has been compromised.
ThisIsMN is operated from the United States. Our service providers may process information in the United States or other locations where they operate. When applicable law requires a transfer mechanism or additional safeguards, we will use appropriate contractual or legal protections.
ThisIsMN accounts are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and delete it as required.
We may update this policy when the service, our data practices, or legal requirements change. We will post the updated policy with a new effective date and provide additional notice when required.
